Kundalini Chakras-SanskarYogashala Yoga School in Rishikesh India

Image
Kundalini Chakras The wisdom of yoga is one of the few schools of thought where practise and theory go hand in hand and in fact by practising one can unlock the theoretical portion by experience and feeling the various changes happening within oneself. Now, here comes a curious doubt that how can one know just by practising all that has been written down in the scriptures and go on knowing more and more to witness extraordinary hidden information within this very self? To answer that I won’t go on writing volumes rather give you a simple example in a sentence: we already have and possess the complete information within our consciousness, in our lives and specifically in yogic practise we just unlock the infinite chambers of our own conscious self which is actually the divinity within us. Now I don’t need to tell anyone of you about the various CHAKRAS, reading this article many of you or even a beginner of yogic practise knows about it since it is again one of the most talked-about ...

An Authentic Vedic Havan:Fire Pooja Session The fire sacrifice is the most prevalent and important ritual performed in Indian tradition and culture since time immemorial. The specific name given to the fire sacrifice is YAGYA (= to offer and combine) whereas it is also known as HAVAN. In its physical form, an elaborate fire altar is constructed also known as KUND (= deep chamber) where the kindle sticks generally of mango twigs are selected and arranged so that the sacrificial fire can be lit. Once the altar and sticks have been arranged surrounding all four sides of the altar priests, prime officiator (YAJMAAN) and worshippers gather and kindling a flame and then starting the fire with consistent offerings of clarified butter (GHEE) and a special mixture of medicinal herbs called "SAMAGRI" is offered in the fire. In this manner with each offering of clarified butter and SAMAGRI Vedic hymns are chanted as the offerings keep the sacrificial fire of HAVAN kindled. This is in...

Yoga Darshan - Yoga Philosophy- Sanskar Yogashala Yoga School in Rishikesh India

Image
Yog Darshan ~ Yoga Philosophy The word Yoga and Yoga Philosophy needs no introduction and so does the great seer Patanjali who is also known as the “ Sage in Hinduism,”. Yoga Darshan is the extant classical text written and compiled by the great sage Patanjali ( pat = leaves + Anjali = to devote or live on) and the text is among the six orthodox schools of philosophy of Indian culture and tradition. Yoga darshan literally translates to the “philosophy of yoga”. Yoga has been known as the form of bodily, mental and spiritual practices in which a practitioner in a self-disciplined manner continues to practice and enhance on going towards first bodily then mentally finally leading to spiritual progress. The text of Yoga darshan doesn’t deal with elaborate postures and techniques well known to all who have come across the term of yoga practice. It is rather dealing with something more subtle and scientific starting from the concept of body, then mind and elaborating on the various ...

What are Upanishads-Sanskar Yogashla Yoga School in Rishikesh India

What are Upanishads: The Guru-Shishya Parmapara UPANISHAD( UP = sitting near NISHAD = the feet of the teacher) again as the beauty of Sanskrit language is the great extant literature of vedant philosophy. The Upanishads are the shining jewels of Indian culture and tradition which needs no introduction. We won’t go into eulogy rather in brief try and explain what Upanishads actually contain. Starting first chronologically Upanishads are part of one of the six orthodox schools of philosophy known as SHATH DARSHAN. It comes under VEDANT (the essence of Vedas) and interestingly apart from various schools of knowledge it deals with it has stories where sages and scholars continuously interact in form of dialogues and discussions where the basic ideology is that the thirsty pupil approaches the ocean of knowledge (the GURU) and quenches his/her thirst through a series of questions and answers. In total there are 24 such divines, spiritual and extremely conclusive stories of heroic s...

What are the Vedas-Sanskar Yogashala Yoga School in Rishikesh India

Image
What are the Vedas? Vedas need no introduction and the whole world recognizes it as the first testimony of mankind. But what is in the Vedas largely remains a mystery. Here in this short text I would try and make it simpler what Vedas actually mean. The word VEDA is derived from the root word in Sanskrit known as VID which translates into knowledge. In simpler terms, the Vedas are the texts or ancient most tradition of knowledge passed on from generation to generations. The historicity of Vedic knowledge is hard to trace since time immemorial they were passed on by recitation and memorizing in a guru –shishya tradition. Hence the Vedas were completely preserved and carried on within the memories of the ancient sages and their disciples which came to be known as SHRUTI ( = which is spoken and heard). It was around not less than 5000 years back when the Vedic scriptures were written down and compiled by a group of sages in various books and scriptures. The necessity of writing dow...

Muladhara Chakra-Sanskar Yogashala Yoga School in Rishikesh India

Image
Muladhara Chakra: the base of all existence The very first chakra located right at the beginning of the spinal column is known as MULADHARA (ROOT+ FOUNDATION). The two words conjoin to form the basic sense of this primal chakra which translates to be “where the basic roots are established”. The theory of chakras comes with a long list of associated spiritual parameters as well. The most important being the fundamental elements (MAHABHOOT) associated with each of them. In the case of MULADHARA, the associated element is PRITHVI( = earth). Apart from this, there are a number of petals, associated syllable and respective deities and other such spiritual dimensions along with the color as well. MULADHARA chakra is where the KUNDALINI is supposed to be dormant in deep sleep coiled and being the very first Chakra this chakra is also known as the root chakra. In a manner of saying it is the actual root of this complete divine tree of human consciousness. As mentioned before each chak...

Meaning of Kundalini-Sanskar Yogashala Yoga School in Rishikesh India

Image
Meaning of Kundalini? Perhaps this will be at least fourth or fifth time I am going to tell you about something which you already have gone through and tried to dwell more and more. This topic is of utmost importance for each and every practitioner and anyone who has ever had contact with the philosophy of yoga. Once again I am going to be as forthcoming as ever and just like a messenger of our ancient tradition portray about it as it is given in the scriptures. As it has been one of my addictions I begin with the very name itself, the word KUNDALINI means “coiled”, the very word has been inspired from a dormant snake in hibernation coiled into itself and in a state of sleep. The meaning is as mystical as the very concept behind it, the HATHYOG tradition is verily based and inspired from this concept and it imagines that the root cause of human potential and consciousness rests or sleeps dormant just like this snake in hibernation exactly at the very end of the spine (physically)...

Ujjayi Pranayama : How to do it- Sanskar Yogashala Yoga School in Rishikessh India

Image
Ujjayi Pranayama : How to do it? Ujjayi pranayama also is known as ujjayi breathing technique is a lot like the bhastrika pranayama with a slight involvement of contraction or constriction of the voice box by the practitioner. If you have been practicing bhastrika pranayama then performing this pranayama involves only this particular aspect of the voice box or larynx constriction by the practitioner. The name ujjayi has various meanings in Sanskrit, in the simplest terms it is known as “victorious” or “victorious breathing” and as general “ Ujjayi” means “ ocean sounding breath”. This simile of ocean sound has been derived from the fact that the passage of air through the constricted voice box feels and sounds like the consistent and sustained sound of the oceans if one stands on the coast and tries to hear it. Similarly, the practitioner contemplates similar ocean sound practicing this Pranayam. Let’s have a look at the various steps involved in doing this particular pranayama....
